These recommendations were developed in a series of meetings with interested stakeholder and bicycle advocates and refined throughout the planning process. Recommended Routing System One of the goals of the planning process was to develop a system of routes and wayfinding to guide bicyclists within and between communities. The regional routes serve as the main arteries for bicyclists to access communities; while the local routes direct bicyclists along preferred roadways to important destinations within communities. This La Crosse Area Bike Map illustrates the recommended regional and local route system. The La Crosse Area Bike Maps Page also includes smaller community-level maps. The regional routes will be signed and enumerated in a manner to be determined during implementation of the routing system. Enhanced signage will be installed at important intersections with the local system to aid in wayfinding to local destinations. Recommended Bicycle Accommodations Bicycle accommodations on major roads for advanced bicyclists (Class A), as well as off-road accommodations for everyday bicyclists (Class B and C) were developed for 6 regions within the planning area. In the following table you can find a map of the recommendations as well as a summary table of the recommendations by roadway or trail segment. The maps and tables are numbered as they appear in Chapter 4 of the bicycle plan.
